Question: My husband, 57 year old with high blood pressure, has the following symptoms: Extreme dizziness, nausea, and low body temp (96.5) He woke up this morning so dizzy he can not stand up. That, and the other symptoms, do not seem to be getting any better. He has been in bed all day. He had quite a bit to drink last night. Could this be alcohol poisoning?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that your husband's current symptoms could be due to excessive alcohol consumption.

Though dizziness and nausea are nonspecific and may be explained with other causes as well, decreased body temperature is quite likely to be related to alcohol intake.

First, check his blood pressure to assure that the actual values are OK.

In such case, as the symptoms are getting worse try to give him plenty of fluids, with sugar content (non-alcoholic) for an appropriate re-hydration (alcohol causes body dehydration and decrease of blood glucose levels); also he should stay in a warm place in order to increase his body temperature.

If the symptoms are not relieved then it is necessary to ask medical assistance to the nearest ER service at your living area.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further uncertainties, feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
