Suggest Treatment For Heart Palpitations And Anemia

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I have an issue where it feels like my heart is "dropping" when I'm laying down, a slight burning sensation at times that when it drops I have to sit up and take a deep breath. It happens intermittently and causes me to not be able to sleep on my side or sometimes not at all without sitting up. Other times it feels as though it is also rubbing against my lungs or ribs and sometimes the odd feeling in my heart extends to my vaginal area at times. It sounds weird but it is the only way to describe it.

Brief Answer:
Anemia, a heart problem or a metabolic disorder could be responsible

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for asking healthcare magic
I understand your concerns

I guess what you described as "a dropping heart and the sensation that the heart is rubbing against your lungs and ribs" is probably palpitations. With this presentation in my hospital I would first of all rule out the following conditions:

1) Anemia: shortage of blood. To rule out this condition, your conjunctiva and some other areas have to be examined. If they are pale, then a full blood count test would be necessary.

2) Heart problem: To rule out a heart problem, the heart has to be clinically examined first. Then an ECG, ultrasound or stress test may be demanded. These tests would help in identifying the exact problem.

3) Metabolic disorders like low calcium levels in blood. With this, you need to do a serum electrolyte panel.

Treatment would depend on the cause. In my humble opinion, I would suggest you see a doctor for proper assessment and management.

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any worry or follow up query, don't hesitate to write to us. I will be delighted to give you answers.
I wish you good health
