Question: I had an iron infusion yesterday, and it appears my vein was busted. There is a hard spot and the arm hurts. Is this something that will heal itself.

Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
Noted that you had iron infusion yesterday, appears that the vein was burst - hard spot - arm hurts - wants to know whether this will heal itself.

This is either due to hematoma with/without extravasation of medicine; can be associated thrombophlebitis or phlebo-thrombosis .

This is usually self-limiting, if due to clot/ inflammation will take about 1-3 weeks to heal on its own.

If extravasation of the medicine, can take longer.

Antibiotic is given if there is thrombo-phlebitis that is inflammation and/or infection.
Otherwise anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen should help you.
Please do not fondle the area, no massage. There are local applications but really doubtful whether they really help.

Do not worry as the body's own healing powers are the best and usually take care of such incidences.

Give rest to the affected parts.
