Suggest Treatment For Hard Bead Like Formation On The Neck

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Apr 2015
Question: Left side of my neck has a hard bead like feel under skin where my pulse is located. It doesn't feel that way on the right. All my Google searches point to it being my body fighting infection. Every infection seemed deadly ei. Hiv or cancer. I also saw info online that said it could be a salivary gland related issue. I bit my lip really badly in November and still have a hard but small bead thingy on my bottom lip under the skin. Greatly appreciate whatever insight that can be provided. I do smoke also. Attempt to quit.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasonography and FNAC

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
I have read and understood your concerns.

To recapitulate: Young Male / 29 years - hard bead like feel under the skin on left where pulse is located - Googled - lip bite in November - still have hard bead - Wants inputs - thinking of cancer, HIV and Salivary gland - smoker...

I would like to know a few more things:
-Since when have you felt this bead ?
-What is the size, site and exact location?
-Is it painful ?
-Any increase in size ?
-Any investigations or consultation done with a Specialist?

You may please attach the reports, investigations, opinions of the Doctors here as YYYY@YYYY

Considering your age, this may not be anything serious. But medical field depends upon the evidences. Hence I would advise you the following:
-Ultrasonography and color doppler examination to start with and confirmation by a CT scan of the whole neck.
-If the node is amenable, FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) under ultrasonography guidance.
-Clinical evaluation and examination by an ENT or a General Surgeon will help further.

These two simple tests will clear most of the doubts, give a proper diagnosis and a plan for treatment.

It is good that you are trying to quit smoking.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications if you feel there is a gap of communication.

Thanks for the speedy response. I noticed it maybe in late November, but I'm one of those idiots scared to see a physician for fear they'll tell me some bad news. It hasn't grown much however it is hard and unlike the right side. And no, there's no pain. It's located right where you check for a pulse under chin close to the throat as well as the jaw bone.

Brief Answer:
Hard and not painful is not good in our practice at some occasions

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your appreciation and feedback.
You have been away from the proper diagnosis for a long time, that is more than 3 months. 'Hard' is the word, that scares me too for a simple reason that the diagnosis should not be delayed unnecessarily, if you agree with me.
Again, ''no pain'' is not a good symptoms at all.
I am writing these things not to scare you, but to awaken you to the fact that a proper diagnosis is the only key to have a stress-free life.
Earliest diagnosis is the best policy.

So please go ahead ASAP.
I will be waiting for the results of the tests.

You may please rate this answer before closure of the discussion and can certainly contact me on the bellow link in future, whenever you may need me.
