Question: Hi Doctor

Greetings !

I am 26 old male suffering from hair thinning. Thinning is so bad and scalp is light visible...

I consulted Docotor and he prescribed medicines for 2 months.
1 Finabald 2.5 mg
2 Bontress shampoo
3 Foligain lotion night time
4. Trichoz plus tab.

My concern is.... I was suffering with pimples due to excess oil production...so the same doc earlier prescribed istrion 10 mg for 2 months....now my acne is cleared and no pimples..

My concern is :

1. Will finabald increases my oil production and leads to pimples ?
2. What is the role of finabald in controlling thinning of hair ?
3. Will finabald affect hormones mainly testosterone and causes acne again ?
4. Wearing helmet causing thinning ?
5. Side effects of finabald ?
6. Will Finabald increases testosterone in the body or just inhibits the byproduct (DHT)of testosterone ??

Please suggest me whether to continue finabald ??

Or i need to undergo any blood tests to identify exact problem for hair loss

Brief Answer:
finabald effective in male pattern baldness

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
Finabald contains finasteride which is effective in the treatment of male pattern baldness. If you having thinning of the hair in the crown area along with recession of the hair line then finasteride will definitely help you.
Don't worry as it will not cause increase oil production and pimples.
Finasteride inhibits the enzyme 5 alpha reductase which is required for the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. So the level of dihydrotestosterone decrease which is mainly responsible for hair thinning and loss in male pattern baldness.
Finasteride won't affect testosterone levels and cause acne.
Hair thinning is not related wearing helmet.
Finabald has been seen to cause erectile dysfunction and loss of libido in 1-3 percent of the patients but it is mostly reversible. Sometimes it gets reversed even on continued treatment.
Finasteride doesn't increase the levels of testosterone in the body. It simply reduces the level of dihydrotestosterone in the scalp.
You can continue with finabald if you are having male pattern baldness.
In other patterns of hair loss it is not very effective.
As far as blood tests for hair thinning are concerned get your haemoglobin, Serum ferritin levels and TSH test done.
I hope to have answered your queries and would be happy to clarify any further doubts.

Dr Asmeet

Brief Answer:
Answers below

Detailed Answer:
1. Yes head massage will help in growth of hair.
2. Finabald will first stop hair fall and then will cause regrowth of hair.
3. Yes you can take daily head bath.
4. For acne you can take medium carbohydrate diet, don't need to avoid them completely.
5. Fruits contain safe carbohydrates, no need to avoid them. Fruits won't cause increase in sebum. All fruits are good for skin especially yellow coloured fruits like papaya and mangoes and different types of berries like strawberry, raspberry.
6. Excessive oil in skin is due to increased activity of sebaceous glands due to hormonal factors.
7. For reducing oil on the face use a salicylic acid facewash twice daily and if still uncontrolled consider taking capsule isotretinoin but under the guidance of the doctor.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to folligain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Increased hair loss can be due to folligain lotion. It is not due to finabald.
Yes you can stop folligain for sometime till the hair fall stops.
I am sorry but there are no tests that can detect cause for sudden hair loss.

Regards.
