I would advise you to now follow the prescription as advised by your treating doctor. Your doctor has very rightly prescribed you all tho required drugs which should surely help in your case to handle this issue of hair fall.
But make sure that you take the treatment regularly as advised. Hair loss in men is a major problem and it takes two to three months of regular treatment to expect any results to start appearing . So it needs a lot of patience on your side to follow the treatment regularly as advised by your doctor.

Now as far as your treatment is concerned, you might have to take the oral medicines for atleast a year or it all depends upon the response that we see. Hair regrowth treatment is usually a long one. Oral medicines will be discontinued after sometime but the application of lotion might continue for a much longer period .
As far as hair washing is concerned, you can wash it every morning while taking bath. Remember to leave the shampoo on your hair for atleast five minutes before washing it off. After this you can apply the medicine to the roots of hair and then reapply the medicine at night again. You do not need to wash your hair twice.
As far as side effects are concerned, there are not many that we encounter in our clinical experience . All of these drugs are being used since long for treatment of male pattern hair loss and in my clinical experience, we have not seen patients reporting any major issues.
As far as diet is concerned, you mainly need biotin rich food like dry fruits, carrots, eggs etc.
