Question: I am 35 weeks and half pregnant, and I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes few days ago. My fasting Glucose level is 122 at different times and 170 two hours after meal. I have been placed on insulin provided the insulin successfully control my diabetes can my pregnancy be a full time pregnancy (40 weeks) even if I have been diabetic before pregnancy or I should have planned labour . Also I have been told that my baby weight 9 lb 4 ounces (4.2kg) should I be concerned that his weight might slim down my chances of natural birth.

Brief Answer:
Yes,the chances of natural birth may be low.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
As you are diabetic that does not mean you will not be able to complete your 40 weeks.
If everything will be fine you can go for planned labour.
But as you say your baby weight is more, your chances of normal delivery may decreased.
Hope found useful, feel free to discuss more information.
Good luck.
Regards
