Suggest Treatment For Gastritis

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jun 2014
Question: For the past few weeks I have experienced increasing pain, bloating, and gas. I have been taking a probiotic capsule for the last couple of months but didn't notice a huge change until recently. I would like to know if I need to change my food, stop the probiotic, and/or see a doctor.

Brief Answer:
looks like gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

A have read your query and understand your concern.

As per your symptoms of increasing pain, bloating and gas, you seem to be suffering from gastritis, mostly from being on and off on so many medication over the past years and the stress of those ailments.

I would suggest that you start on some ppi tablets like omeprozole or pantaprozole for the same. This needs to be taken of empty stomach preferably in the morning, one hour before breakfast. Initially you may take it twice a day, and as your symptoms improve, you may make it one a day.

Your probiotic has nothing to do with this condition, and you may continue taking it for your diverticulitis.

Regarding food, you need to avoid tea, coffee, soda drinks and spicy foods as they will increase your gastritis.

If after taking ppi for a week you dont feel any much relief, then you need to see a gasto specialist for an upper gi tract endoscopy to diagnose the severity of the condition for its proper management.

Hope that i have been helpful.

Regards,
Dr. Deepika Patil
