Suggest Treatment For Gastritis Along With Dizziness And Abdominal Pain

Question: I had been suffering from gastritis and panic disorder for over 2 years. I believe these conditions are both related to each other because when i was diagnosed with gastritis and severe pain in the upper abdominal i started feeling dizzy and having panic attacks at the same time. i then went onto see a psychiatrist after my consultation with the gastro entomologist who confirmed i have a panic disorder. the doctor initially gave me omeprazole i cannot remember the dosage now but i was taking for one year and then i stopped taking this medicine under the supervision and guidance of the psychiatrist I am seeing. the psychiatrist then prescribed me Escitalopram the branded model called cipralex (SSRI). I have been feeling better since taking this medicine as it has incredibly reduced the anxiety symptoms I used to feel and stopped my panic attacks. i was then introduced to a family doctor who had told me to take niacin vitamin b3 in large amount, vitamin k2, vitamin d3 , digestive enzymes and magnesium to help get me off the escitalopram (ssri), and as soon as i starting taking these supplements i felt allot better and I have stopped taking the ssri for almost one year now and feel great.

I would like to add that I believe what initially caused my gastritis was high dosage of caffeine, protein powders and high amount of fried eggs would all aggravate my symptoms and make me feel so il to the extend I could not walk outside my house feeling tightness in chest and completely unwell.

I enjoy bodybuilding now and workout 4/5 times a week. Since i have gotten better i have been training in the gym, I was once told on this website by a doctor that after a year or so after my stomach lining heals I should be able to have protein powder and eggs again. I do have small amount of eggs and have no issues. I recently took a protein milkshake twice from a vending machine at the gym and was completely fine. The third time i took one with different brand I started having the same side effects as I initially had which was anxiety symptoms and irritation in chest area (i would also like to mention I had a strong tea that day aswel which may have led to the irritation also due to caffeine amount). As I am now taking the vitamins it has greatly reduced that side affect but it is still slightly there i can feel a little iriitation still. and I have ordered a bag of protein powder from my protein.co.uk, this brand is supposed to be very clean protein not mixed with other chemical, substances. I would like to give this a try and see if I can use this product without the ill feelings. I would like to know from you doctor, do you think it is the protein powder in general that my body is not suiting or a substance in the protein powder as i have not yet distinguished this, the two protein powders i had from the vending machine may have irritated my stomach lining leading upto the third one causing the problem or it could have just been the third one causing the problem whereas the other first two being fine. I would like to give the protein powder one let try before I officially stop if it doesn't suit my body since iv ordered a new bag from a completely different brand i have not tried before and heard good things about as I feel it improves my muscle building programme. I have still not understood also why protein powder causes inflammation in the stomach lining, and if it happens again is there anything else I can do to reduce my symptoms apart from taking higher dosage of niacin for anxiety, and gaviscon o reduce any inflammation in the stomach.

I would also like to mention that If i am unsuccessful in being able to take this protein powder , I will then go onto make my homemade protein milkshake by blending oats egg whites milk and possibly some banana or honey/peanut butter. I would assume this is a better option but since I have ordered the bag if you could give me some idea as to what is going wrong with protein powders and my body.

Brief Answer:
Proteins are safe to use for anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern but I'd like to add that in general proteins are considered as safe to use in anxiety and also in stomach issues. Commonly whey, casein or creatine etc are used for body builders and these are safe to use proteins. As you are purchasing protein from a reputed website then the risk of adulteration is zero and you can safely start proteins.

High doses of proteins with carbs result in increased absorption of amino acids in brain and thus increased tryptophan in brain which get converted into serotonin. Improved serotonergic neurotransmission results in reduction of anxiety and depression. So please don't anticipate you can start taking proteins without any worries. Just start with low dose and gradually increase the doses. This will help in adjusting the stomach to proteins.

THANKS AND TAKE CARE

Brief Answer:
Adulterants cause gastric issues, proteins are usually safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Since I am a Psychiatrist I can give you detailed information if anxiety or depression is considered. I can give you an idea about gastric upset with high dose of proteins but if you need detailed information you should open a new thread and please request for gastroenterologist.

In most cases adulterants cause problems of indigestion and gastric irritation which results in bloating like symptoms which can precipitate anxiety and panic. The problems occur more in individuals who have anxiety issues.

Thanks
