Suggest Treatment For Fussy Eating Habits In An Adult

Question: Dear Dr.

My son who is now 20 has always been a fussy with food since he was little. I've always thought that he will get over it once he grows up. He still lives with us and has not changed his food habits much. He does not do vegetables and meat and sticks to pizzas and rice with yoghurt. He has now developed into a skinny young man and I fear if he does not change he will get diseased.

What can I do to make him want to eat variety. If we push him and he tries to eat something like meat that he does not like, he pukes. Thats the way he has been. Sadly junk food is no problem.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be choice related only

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
This can be a problem, if a person gets ill on eating wheat or wheat products. Or a person gets loose stools or weight loss on eating a particular diet, then we need to consider diseases like Celiac diseases where a person's body is allergic to wheat and wheat products.
It can be a disease if he doesn't have appetite. He has appetite and eats dishes of his choices, that means that he has just developed taste and diversion to these particular food products.
This doesn't require any treatment with any drugs. You should discuss with him and promote him to eat these foods too in small quantities to start with along with dishes of his choice.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Would you recommend a multivitamin course?

Also since he has never been one to be coaxed to eat something he does not like, I am sure he is missing a lot of vegetable nutrients.

Are there any appetite building tablets you can suggest?

As a person, he wont do anything himself and feels he's fine. But I can see he's lethargic and sleepy and disinterested.

Brief Answer:
You can give.

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Yes giving him multivitamin for a short course is not a bad idea.
You can give him any good multivitamin like Becosule , Zincovit, Wellman , Revital for a short duration like 2 weeks in a month.
To increase appetite there are nu nervous drugs and my trust is with Cyproheptadine. It helps in improving appetite.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
