Suggest Treatment For Fungal Infection In The Nail

Posted on Wed, 19 Apr 2017
Question: I've had hangnail wound on my finger for months. If I keep it medicated and covered, the skin stays intact but doesn't heal. If I leave it uncovered, the skin pulls away and bleeds, looking like it might get worse. I tried and anti-fungal for a month and neosporin for several weeks, but it won't heal.

Brief Answer:
The wound should be kept moist all the time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HealthcareMagic to post your health query.
I saw your photo carefully and I can understand your concern.

That must be a painful area.
It doesn't seem to be infected and the antibiotic and anti-fungal cream won't help much.
Also, it doesn't seem to be a fungal infection there.

It is taking more time to heal because the wound is deeper than the layer of the skin that can heal itself. But if you take good care of it, it should heal eventually.

My recommendation is that you keep it covered but you need to keep it moist all the time. Apply a cream (a normal cream, without odor or color- Vaseline for example) and make sure that the wound stays always covered by it. The wound heals from the base and gradually gets healed.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
