Suggest Treatment For Frequent Urination And Presence Of WBC In Urine
MIGHT BE URINARY TRACT INFECTION; TELL ABOUT DETAILS OF TESTS
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.
I understand your query.
Primarily, increased white blood cells indicate infection. It might be an urinary tract infection and thus there can be increased frequency. You have said that various tests have been done. Kindly give the details, tell me what were tested. Also get an urine culture done. This will reveal the organism. Your doctor has advised to test for chlamydia and human papilloma virus which can cause cervical cancer. These are just prophylactic and are done to rule out these causes. Dont worry.

My wife has had bloods done as well as renal ultrasound and mentioned they said she did not have a UTI. I am just wondering why the Dr would now recommend a Chlamydia test....is this the usual course of action? Or does he think it is likely she has this? I am worried because I feel like my wife is beginning to doubt me.
Is it that Chlamydia testing is just one of many possible scenarios (given the high WBC in urine) and doctors just test for this as one scenario. Or is it this a case of it is highly likely at this stage given UTI not present and high WBC in urine?
Thanks
Scott

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
She might have a genital infection and chlamydia is a common cause of it. Hence he has asked for its testing. Also i assume your wife is more than 30years age so testing for human papilloma virus is advocated beyond this age. While chlamydia can be a probable cause, HPV testing is mostly as a precaution. I might also add that chlamydia infection is very much treatable. So get the tests done.
Dont worry.
Wish you good health.
The situation is:
1. Blood tests done and no UTI
2. WBC in urine
3. Dr request tests for Chlymadia
Could there be a range of other possible scenarios besides an STD? I am really worried that if it is an STD my wife will divorce me! I am trying to put my mind at ease until she gets the results that it could be something else?
Please advise.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
First of all, blood tests dont diagnose UTI. If you have WBCs in urine in number more than normal, it can be stamped as UTI plus she has some clinical features of it. So UTI is a possibility. Also, the chlamydia test is advised to find the cause. I would suggest an urine culture.
And yes, chlamydia is an STD but it is not even diagnosed. So dont worry. There are other possible organisms too. Let the diagnosis be made. Relax.
