Suggest Treatment For Fever With Dry Cough In A Child

Question: Dear Dr. My Daughter 2 yrs 4 months. she was sick with stomach infection vomiting loose stools and fever and was hospitalised 15 days ago. She was administered IV fluids and Monocef as antibiotic. She became fine and got discharged 2 days later.

During the hospital stay possibly her mom caught up fever 102f with dry cough slight nasal secretions and was sick for 3 days. She was administered Azithromycin for 3 days.

now unfortunately my daughter is sick again with the same symptoms. Fever 101.5 comes to normal on calpol 250 3.5 ml. nasal secretions mild pale yellow. cough occatioal but heavy.
I
have Azithral liquid 200. 40 mg/ml.
can I give her this ? Please advice dosage.
because she was given monocef almost 2 weeks ago is there anything to worry about?

Thanks for the query.
It looks like your daughter may have viral infection.
Do not rush for antibiotics if the child is playful in between the fever, passing urine and stool adequatly.
You can give her symptomatic treatment like calpol for fever, syp. monticope for cold and syp. s-mucolite for cough.
If fever does not respond within 3 to 4 days or symptoms worsen , then you must see a doctor. (he may advise some blood test or start antibiotics depending on the condition of the baby.)
