Question: My husband is being treated for a prostate infection with an antibiotic and is running a fever around 101. Should we just let the fever help fight the infection? Should we treat the fever with Tylenol?

Brief Answer:
You need to some more tests to confirm the organisms causing infection .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your husband is being treated for Prostatitis .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Have you consulted Urologist to rule out Enlarged Prostate as a primary cause for infection of Prostate ?
2) Have you done urine culture and taking antibiotics as per culture report ?.Persistent fever even after taking antibiotic suggests that the organisms may be resistant to antibiotic that he is taking.

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.

Please give broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefexime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure he drinks more water. To keep his urine dilute ,

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Primary aim is to treat infection Once it is controlled fever is bound to come down .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
