Question: Hello Doctor,

I have 3 days old newborn baby boy. Today i found little blood like stains couple of times in his diapers. He did pee around 5 times today and I found blood like stains in 2 of them. I attached the pic for one of them.
Please let me know if it is something to be concerned about?
Please note that my wife had little fever today (Around 99.9 degree) but she breast feeded him. Can these blood like stains be due to the fact that she breastfeed him while she was in fever? Asking so as this stains were seen in the diaper only after she breast feed him in evening after having fever.

Brief Answer:
Observe closely, not related to breast feed

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I won't get worried if urinary stream is good, there is no fever or excessive crying while passing urine.

I would like to get one urine test done to confirm whether there is really blood stain or it is stain of something else. The urinary problem is usually not related to breast feed or being close to mother having fever.

You should be extra cautious of mother is having any cough/cold. As breast feeding is very important for both mother and baby it is better to use mask during cough/cold to prevent it's spread.
Continue breast feed as usual.

Here I would suggest you to observe baby closely for any abnormal symptoms and get a urine test done to confirm the presence of blood.

I hope this helps.
