default
Posted on Thu, 19 Mar 2015
Question: I am 40, male. very active, excercise alot. 6 months ago I thought I pulled my groin muscle. It would not heal, Thought it was a hernia, I have seen hernia dr. 3 times, he says it isnt a hernia, probably a pulled muscle. If I rest it does ease up, but it will not heal completely. Could it be a pinched nerve, arthritis, I am getting desperate for answers.

Brief Answer:
Could be hip issue

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
It is possible that this is a nerve problem. If you had disc disease in the back you might get some groin pain from that. However, I think hip arthritis is more likely. Hip pain is referred into the groin and often patients with hip arthritis do not have pain in the hip but only in the groin.
Six months is a long time for pulled muscle pain, that should have resolved by now.
I suggest that you ask your doctor for xrays of the low back (to check for alignment of the spine) and for xray of you hip.
It would make sense that if you have hip arthritis then when you rest it the pain eases up.
Good luck and I hope you get a diagnosis and some relief soon

If it is arthritis, what would be a remedy?

The pain is sometimes sharp, sometimes just aches, sometimes I can just feel discomfort? Does that make sense?

Brief Answer:
depends on severity

Detailed Answer:
If you have hip arthritis it really depends upon how severe it is. Sometimes adding supplements like glucosamine and SamE can improve the cartilage in the joint and restore normal function, especially in someone as young as you are. If there is severe damage or misalignment then a surgery may be required. However, surgery would not be the first option. If it is arthritis you doctors would probably try medications and physical therapy first before considering a surgical option. I only mentioned the glucosamine and SamE because many doctors are not aware of these supplements and they can be very helpful for regaining joint function, but they would need to be taken long term and for at least 3 months to see an effect.
I hope you get an answer soon.
