Suggest Treatment For Fatty Liver And Burning Sensation In The Abdominal Area

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Oct 2016
Question: I'm 36 years old & had a basic health checkup very recently.
1. I have been diagnosed with grade 2 fatty liver & haemoglobin(10 mg), RBC count (3.78 millions/cumm) are less.
Non HDL cholesterol - 135 mg/dl
LDL Cholesterol (DIRECT) - 118 mg/dl
both are under normal risks.

2. I have been suffering with stomach burning for last 6 years & left untreated.

My doctor prescribed me these medicines,
- ursocol 150 mg in morning & Night for 6 months
- Feronia XT for 1 month
- Cyra D,morning & Night before food for 1 month

Here are my questions:
1. Do I have to continue taking ursocol for next 5 months?
2. Though after taking stomach burning medicine for a month,I feel I'm not fully recovered as I'm unable to drink tea/coffee & cannot have spicy food.
What should be my next step on this?
3. When I took Iron tablets(Feronia XT), I was no more tired & my headache has reduced a lot.
My pale skin changed & I looked pretty good with chubby cheeks.
But after stopping its intake,my skin look pale again & look very weak but I don't feel much tired now.
What should be my next step on this?

4.What is you view on my chloesterol level? Doctos doesn't prescribe any medicines & I feel diet & walking would control this.
Finally,Doctor said that I have hernia(umbilical) & needs to be operated.
I didn't face any discomfort so far and I don't like to get operated as i had 2 caesareans already.
Is there any possibility that I can get rid of it by practicing yoga?
Need your valuable suggestions.

Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. Let me try to answer them one by one:
1. It is meaningless to take or continue Ursocol for 5 months unless there is definite evidence of biliary stasis (unlikely to be the case).

2. In order to relieve yourself, you need to do the following:
* Avoid spicy food. Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.
* Avoid alcohol intake (if it a part of your habit).
* Take omeprazole once daily before breakfast.
* Take plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like isabgol/psyllium husk or senna. I would insist you to increase your dietary fiber intake.
* Regular morning walk and exercise to keep the bowel movements proper.
* Take curd or yogurt on daily basis. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.

3. Take Feronia XT for a month and discontinue thereafter. Get your hemoglobin levels checked thereafter.

4. I would insist you to provide the details of the lipid profile. Based on it I would guide you further.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Here comes my clarification,

1. If taking ursocol is unnecessary, then how could be grade 2 fatty liver be treated ? May be with proper diet & walking?

2.For how long I should take omeprazole medicine & what is the dosage?

3. LIPID profile details:

Lipid profile cholesterol - 182 mgs/dl
Triglyceridesn- 82 mgs/dl
HDL Cholesterol (Direct) - 47mg/dl
NON HDL Cholesterol -135 mg/dl
LDL Cholesterol - 118 mg/dl
Coronary Risk Ratio I - 3.8
Coronary Risk Ratio II - 2.5

4. Sorry to mention, you missed to answer my last question about umbilical hernia in my previous mail,Here it is:
Doctor said that I have hernia(umbilical) & needs to be operated.
I didn't face any discomfort so far other than I look like 5 months pregnant lady and I don't like to get operated as i had 2 cesareans already.
Is there any possibility that I can get rid of it by practicing yoga?

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Once again let me try to answer your queries one by one:

1. Ursocol will only be effective if there is cholestasis or biliary stasis. Doing some intervention does not necessarily mean that the intervention would be effective. There is no intervention that has shown definite results. Please go through the following:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC0000/
Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly may help prevent liver damage from starting or reverse it in the early stages.

2. Omeprazole is usually taken for 6 weeks. The daily dose is 20 mg once daily before breakfast.

3. The lipid profile does not look concerning. You need not worry. Please go through:
https://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/lipid/tab/test/

4. Hard to comment about it without a clinical examination. Unless there seems to be a chance of obstruction, such things can usually be left without surgery. If chances of obstruction seem to be present, appropriate steps need to be taken. Yoga may help in strengthening the abdominal muscles, thus reducing the hernia. But it is hard to comment definitively without a clinical examination.
