Question: I have had excessive gas with uncontrolled expulsion for 3 plus months. I take simethicone without relief. I also notice alot or my stools are floating.

Excess gas can be related to different possible causes such as: (1) use of certain foods such as broccoli, cabbage, turnips, beans, cauliflower, carbonated drinks, apple, XXXXXXX banana
(2)reflux can also cause problems with bloating
(3)lactose intolerance
(4)side effect of medication
(5)history of constipation- irregular or insufficient bowel movements can also cause excess gas
(6)irritable bowel syndrome
(7)problems with fat absorption- this would contribute to the floating stools seen
(8)celiac disease

You may want to consider a food diary to see if there are any particular foods or method (eg frying -- fat in oils) that are associated with this problem, this should be done for at least 7 to 10 days.

If there is no pattern then you may need to consider the use of probiotics along with reflux medication (even if there are no typical reflux symptoms), it would decrease the air though can take a few days for an effect in some persons

Eg nexium, prilosec, prevacid etc

Probiotics help with the normal bacterial flora of the intestines and have been shown to be helpful.
