Brief Answer:
eustachian tube dysfunction.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, you might be having eustachian tube dysfunction causing blockage in the ear. Normally, the eustachian tube connects the middle ear with the nose.

Any nasal pathology, common cold, nasal allergies, sinus infection all these can cause blocked eustachian tube. This cause negative pressure in the middle ear causing ear blockage, reduced hearing, ringing sound in the ear.

Clinical examination, nasal endoscopy, eustachian tube tests can detect the pathology. This needs medical evaluation.

Treatment option is decongestant nasal drops + decongestant tablet twice daily for 7 days.
Steam inhalation daily twice may be helpful. Valsalva exercises will be very helpful. As your doctor said do those exercises daily.
Keep chewing bubble gum most of the time. This will keep the eustachian tube open. This eustachian tube dysfunction is not related to your increase or decrease in cholesterol levels. Consult with the doctor if symptoms persists.
Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
