Suggest Treatment For Erectile Dysfunction

Question: I took Viagra just recently and it did nothing for me. I take KDUR for low potassium and MagOx for low magnesium. I take 2 pills of KDUR 3 times a day and 3 magnesium supplements a day along with Amiloride once a day, which is supposed to help my kidney produce more potassium. Could taking that amount of those pills be the cause of the Viagra not working? I have a feeling it does, because ever since the doc increased my dosage, it seems I don't get an erection as easy as I used to. Please advise

Brief Answer:
It is a possible cause!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about these difficulties getting erections even after using viagra.

Magnesium and potassium are both known to induce smooth muscle relaxations. There is no doubt that high amounts could possible cause muscle erection and make erections ore difficult. The time line of difficult erections that coincided with an increase in the dosage of these medications is very suggestive of a cause-effect relationship.

What are your potassium and magnesium levels? Are they very low or are they normal. And why are you having low potassium Is there a known reason or just an observed abnormality. Are you on medications like water pills that are likely to cause this problem?

In all, the possible increased doses may be responsible for this. Signal this to your doctor and hear what he says. Also, what is the established cause of your low potassium and magnesium electrolytes level. A review of treatment may help with this.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I have a history of low potassium in my family and what I was diagnosed with was Gittleman's disease. I have to get my lad work done again in a few weeks. But my levels have been out of the normal, so that is why the doctor increased my dosage. Hopefully soon, he will advise me to lower my dosag. I do not take water pills, but the magnesium makes me urinate quite a bit

Thanks!

Detailed Answer:
Thank you so much for this follow up information. It ha really helped e to understand the cause of your low potassium levels. Do you have symptoms or low potassium like heart abnormality, muscle cramps, etc or is it just a laboratory abnormality?

I would wait for what the laboratory investigations suggest in a few weeks. Keep me updated. Amiloride in itself is probably responsible for this increased urination as it is a water pill as well but works by increasing potassium reabsorption by the kidneys(potassium sparing diuretic). The increased urination is not caused by magnesium.

I hope this helps. keep me update and let's work together towards having answers about this problem. I wish you well!
