Question: I choked on food today and coughed at the same time and now my epiglottis hurts when i swallow, burp, yell etc. It feels like a ball in my throat ad im nervous about eating or drinking or even sleeping tonight. It sort of feels like that knot you get in your throat when you hold in your cry. Is it my epiglottis

Brief Answer:
normal to have pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It is normal to have slight pain following an episode of choking. Do not worry, this is how you should go about it

1. Tab acetaminophen can be taken to reduce the feeling in the throat
2. Start taking liquid items first
3. Once you are able to tolerate liquids I recommend semi solid food and only then try to swallow solids
4. At any point if you feel difficulty to swallowing or you start coughing please approach the ER to rule out obstruction or any neurological disorder

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
