Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Spleen And Fatty Liver

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Apr 2015
Question: Hi. I had an ultrasound of the abdomen and everything came back normal except liver and spleen. The spleen was 14 cm and a slightly fatty liver. I am overweight. I am 5'4" and 244 lbs. I have read on line about causes of an enlarged spleen and now I am extremely worried. In your opinion what can this be? I have uploaded my most recent blood tests. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You have more than one minor and treatable problems!

Detailed Answer:
Hi! thanks for your health query!

Here, I would like to describe your health problems, which are of course minor and treatable, in short as:

1. fatty liver: this is possibly due to high blood sugar and cholesterol +/- alcohol and you need to reduce weight, do exercises and take medicines if prescribed/low-fat diets and check after 6 months

2. large spleen: your spleen is only mildly enlarged but possible reason could be fatty liver in your case or some kind of portal hypertension as your blood reports are normal; sometimes the cause could not be identified and it is called idiopathic; once your fatty liver is controlled, please check for this also!

Therefore, please have a positive outlook as your health could be normal very soon and also stick to regular medication/diets/exercises as advised by your physician.
