Suggest Treatment For Elevated Liver Enzymes

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Nov 2014
Question: I'm a 74 yr old woman and just had my yearly physical. My doctor seems upset that my liver enzymes
turned out to be elevated. I forgot to mention to him when he called that I've been sweating a lot, esp
around my neck, which is uncomfortable - and unusual for me. He wants me to have an ultrasound of my liver and repeat the tests in a few weeks. Is this at all likely to be cancer?

Brief Answer:
Very unlikely to be cancer!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these abnormal liver enzymes and all the disturbing thoughts that this has caused you. I have reviewed the information that you have provided fully and there are no arguments to support a possible cancer of the live. Abnormal enzymes has several possible causes and not cancer as likely causes.

With you being on several different drugs, I will like to have a list of your medications and review as drugs are amongst most likely cause of abnormal liver enzymes especially in the elderly.

I will recommend that you stay calm and get these results further investigate and controlled like your doctor has recommended. When the cause would be identified, specific treatment options would be established and administered.

In all, very unlikely to be related to cancer. Please, follow up with testing and control. For now, stay calm until further information raises concerns about possible concerning causes. Sweating a lot is not suggestive and would like that you monitor this over some time.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
