Suggest Treatment For Edema Caused By Chemotherapy

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hello-- I've been using .05% Fluocinonide 2x/day for the last 12 weeks to control edema while I take chemo plus Neulasta to rebuild the WC. Suddenly my skin is getting worse the more I use the ointment.

Is it possible that my body is now reacting negatively to this steroid?

Brief Answer:
Multiple factors likely

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. The edema is due to the chemo and neulasta you take. These two medications cause it in first place. Fluocinonide is not for edema it is basically for either psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, dermatitis or lichen planus etc.

If by skin worsening you mean skin atrophy and striations then yes steroids may cause that too. But so can lunesta and chemo and last but not the least advancing age as age of 82 makes the skin itself a major predisposing factor for deterioration of architecture.

Nutshell this skin is due to multiple issue and not just corticosteroids. Get back to your dermatologist and let them narrow the differentials and manage accordingly.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Take care
