Posted on Tue, 16 Feb 2016
Question: My Ears get congested from time to time. I also get a Crackling sound. My Ear doctor has cleaned them both out recently; but I still feel congested. He has told me he thinks I have acid reflux & he wants me to drink more water & not eat so close to my bedtime. My question is could he be right & IS THERE Anything over the counter medicine that I can take to relieve the crackling & congestion.

Brief Answer:
may be eustachian tube dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the congestion and crackling noise may be due to eustachian tube dysfunction.

The eustachian tube is a passage in the ear that has different responsibilities including regulating pressure.

Abnormal function of the eustachian tube can cause the problems that you are experiencing.

Treatment involves the use of topical and oral decongestants along with anti histamines.
These may help, though some persons do not get relief. In some cases the problems goes on its own.
It can sometimes take weeks to resolve, in some the symptoms may not completely improve.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
