Brief Answer:
cough is because of gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Cough can be because of many reasons, lung disease, throat problems, cardiac diseases, gastritis etc.

As per your symptoms, cough increases on eating masala items suggests that you might be having gastritis. Prolonged gastric reflux can cause irritation of pharyngeal mucosa producing cough.

If I were your treating doctor, I would have prescribed proton pump inhibitors with prokinetics like pantoprazole or omeprazole for 3 to 6 weeks.
Avoid spicy and oily foods.
Eat small and frequent feeds.
Don't starve yourself for more than 3 hours.
In my opinion, you don't need any cough medication.
Once your reflux reduces, cough reduces on its own.

Hope my answers have helped you.
Pleased to help you further.

Thanks.
