default
Posted on Fri, 12 May 2017
Question: I had a sudden onset of diarrhea in the middle of the night Sunday. I was nauseated and threw up. I went back to sleep and slept most of the next day, getting up finally in the afternoon. I ate and I was sure I was on the mend. Last night, I got up at 1:30 with nausea and threw up. I have had diarrhea all this time. Am a little sore and am headachy now and then.

Brief Answer:
Seems like a viral gastrointestinal infection.

Detailed Answer:

Thank you for using HealthcareMagic,
I read your question carefully and I can understand your concern.

You seem to be having a viral gastrointestinal infection. In general, they last for 1-2 days and remain symptomatic with vomiting and about 4-5 days of diarrhea.

These are my recommendations:
- drink plenty of water but small amounts frequently.
- have a diet with brat (banana-rice-apple-toast) and avoid milk because it will make diarrhea worse.
- Take a probiotic to fasten the healing time of the bowel.
- Take an antacid if you have stomach pain. You can continue with Tylenol after some food as needed(up to thrice daily is fine).

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local physician (if you have diarrhea with blood or mucus or if you have any fever).

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.
