Suggest Treatment For Depression When Diagnosed With Conversion Disorder

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: Good morning. I was diagnosed with a conversion disorder last fall. I made an appointment with a psychologist to determine the cause. I was however informed that I do not suffer from depression (I kind of figured that) and that I am perfectly "normal".

When I brought this back to the neurologist (two of them) who had given me the diagnosis of conversion disorder I was told that it can be caused from something that I don't remember, and that it could have occurred at a time when I was a small child.

In short, how can I work on finding the cause of my movement (conversion) disorder if the psychologist disagrees with the neurologists?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Brief Answer:
Get a second psychologist's opinion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Depression is not always the cause of the conversion disorder, the exact cause of it is unknown.

Conversion disorder is a functional neurological symptom disorder, is a condition in which you show psychological stress in physical ways.

If the Psychologist thinks different from Neurologists, and if tests together with neurological examination didn't show any structural cause of your movement disorder, I think getting a second opinion by another psychologist is necessary.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
