Suggest Treatment For Depression And Fatigue

Question: Hi. I despise acting as my own doctor but this has been going on so long I feel more than confident in what is going on. I know I am depressed. Pretty severally. I am a 44 year old female. I cry too much. Find it difficult to even wash my hair often as I am so tired. My husband is not physically mean but mental is another story. He drinks too much and does meth several times a month. I do not drink or do drugs and that seems to be a point of contention as well with him. I am too nice and he is not. I am overweight which I know doesn't help with fatigue. I have had full checkups and I know I need to lose weight as I hear that from everyone included my husband. I have a very stressful job on top of everything else. My mom also recently passed and I help take care of my elderly father. I know what you are thinking. What in the world is my question. I have called several offices in the San XXXXXXX area and am running into a 6-8 week waiting list getting in to see anyone to talk to. I don't know who I should see to be honest with you. I am so tired. Bad thoughts are entering my mind as well about myself and that scares me more than anything. I just don't know where to turn. I am not even sure what my question is. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Depression can be treated with medicines and cognitive therapy

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern to some extent. You can discuss your problems in detail with me. The behaviour of your husband and his habit of meth abuse is one of reason that is aggravating your symptoms. The symptoms like crying spells, bad thoughts and sad mood etc are due to moderate to severe depression only which you are also aware of. Recent death of your mother and stressful job both are potentiating the depressive symptoms.

So to deal with these symptoms and to come out of the depression you have to adjust yourself with all these aggravating factors that is-

- With your husbands behaviour
- Death of your mother
- Stressful job

I would like to known even if your husband is doing drugs and is not very nice with you still what are his main behaviours that are causing you to suffer. If he is physically abusive? What are other members in your house? Any good thing that makes you happy at home? If you and your husband have good sexual life or not? What difficulties you are having with your job?

All these symptoms are due to the stressing factors which have resulted in depression. Depression can be treated easily with proper medicines and cognitive therapy. In cognitive therapy abnormal thought processes and cognitive distortions are corrected and individuals feel better in successive sessions. Medicines like SSRIs especially Fluoxetine, Paroxetine etc are very helpful in depression. Try to get an appointment with a psychiatrist and get yourself evaluated for depression and take proper treatment.

Try to control your bad thoughts, and appreciate what you have in your life. Don't minimise any good thing of your life and also dont maximise any bad thing of your life. Try to remain calm and hope for good. With time your symptoms will reduce. Most of individuals with depression respond to treatment and show full recovery.

Thanks, Please provide the details in follow up so that we can move further. Take care
