Suggest Treatment For Degenerating Discs On Spine

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: Hi my name is XXXX and I have had xrays on my spine that told my doctor that I have 2 discs that are deteriorating. He told me that there is nothing that can be done for me except a heating pad and a hot bath and pain killers. I have been living with this pain for over a year now and I am only 57 years old. I do not want to live with this pain anymore. I don't sleep well, I find myself sleeping in my chair because it is the only position that seems to help at the time. I have eaten a wide assortment of pain relief pills. Is there any other solution for me or is this what I have to live with for the rest of my life?

Brief Answer:
You are likely to have degenerative disc disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having degenerative disc disease with chronic backache.

Treatment of it is back exercises and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Diacerine and glucosamine are of help to prevent condition to deteriorate and to some extend heal it.

I wanted to know which form of decompression treatment you have taken (surgical or other). I can help you better if you can upload your x ray report. Furthermore you can get your vitamin D3 level done to see any vitamin D3 deficiency as it is also a important cause of back pain and aggravate other pains. MRI scan will be helpful you to see disease in detail. I wanted to know whether your back pain is also radiating to legs.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
