Suggest Treatment For Dark Circles Under The Eye
Question: Hi,
I am having pigmentation on my temple area fro last 5-6 years (may be i got it after my first pregnancy). I also have dark under eye circles for last 20 years (tried all available over the counter cremes/medicines etc and parlour treatments etc but nothing worked).
Now my salon head (she is a cosmetologist also) is telling me to try IPL(insta pulse light) and guaranteeing results.
I am not sure, what do you advise.
FYI, i have no other issue with my skin at all.
Thanks

Advice regarding temple pigmentation and periorbital darkening
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.
Yoi may try Intense Pulse Light (IPL) for periorbital darkening. Periorbital darkening is commonly due to thin skin and loss of periorbital tissue and IPL may benefit this because it stimulates synthesis of new collagen and extracellular matrix in dermis.
For temple pigmentation I suggest you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen (Neutrogena Or L'Oreal) throughout the day and a demelanizing cream e.g Clearz XXXXXXX cream at night over dark skin of temple. This cream should not be applied around eyes.
Regards

Thanks a lot doctor for your advise. Few queries on this -
1. As i mentioned, i have taken few treatments in past (mocro dermabraisen, chemical peel etc) which didnt help. infact all this procedure has given me wrinkles around my eyes.
Do you think, this IPL may help?
2. Does IPL help temple pigmentation also?
3. what are the side effects and after effects of the treatment.
4. howmany sessions must be taken to get reasonable impact.
5. approximately howmuch should it charge.
Thanks again,
xxxxxxx

Brief Answer:
Answer to queries related to pigmentation
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
IPL may help periorbital pigmentation. However each patient responds individually and therefore response varies.
For temple pigmentation i would suggest topical treatment as mentioned in my last reply.
Post IPL you may notice some redness and swelling which would subside with ice compresses.
Cost would vary from center to center and you can obviously bargain for it with your provider.
I would suggest at least 4-6 sessions at 3-4 weeks interval for a good response.
Regards
