Brief Answer:
Fever could be UTI secondary to enlarged prostate .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your father who is 62 years old has UTI secondary to Enlarged Prostate which is very common at the age of 60 years and above .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.

1) Does he have obstructive urinary symptoms like increased frequency for urination ,urgency, hesitancy ,poor stream, nocturnal frequency etc preceding few months before this episode of UTI.?

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Routine urine test and Urine culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen.
3) Trans Rectal Ultrasound scanning
4) Serum PSA.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary
antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Further treatment will depend upon the results of these tests and final diagnosis.

Do not worry this is a common problem that elderly people have to go through and can be cured with appropriate treatment.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Good Day Doctor XXXXXXX
Thanks for sharing details. Apologies for a delayed follow up.
Few months back, He had symptoms of irritation during urination & higher nocturnal frequency.
He is admitted 2 days back, under treatment for UTI, fever chills. With latest blood reports he has Hyperthyroidism (11) and Type2 diabetes (Post prandial range of 200). He is advised for antibiotic Meropenum 0.5mg. Today there was little blood during urination. Fever chills continue on & off. Please advise if the treatment is on course, symptoms are as expected & we may hope a good recovery soon ?
Regards,
Vidhya

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are due to Urosepsis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
His symptoms are due to acute Urosepsis ,
Have you received urine culture report .Meropenum is an antibiotic commonly used in Urosepsis .However it is advisable to give appropriate antibiotic as per culture report.Normally culture report is available 72 hours after giving urine sample for test .

Hopefully you will get the report Tomorrow then your Urologist or treating physician will switch on to appropriate antibiotics.

Do not worry he is being treated on correct direction and will take one week for full recovery .
Thanks and Regards.
