Suggest Treatment For Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Posted on Tue, 20 Oct 2015
Question: yesterday i was told i have cubital tunnel syndrome and im wondering how long it takes to heal it? i was prescribed prednizone and its really helpful but I am wearing an elbow support thing but im not sure if its the right thing to wear because it feels like its putting pressure on my arm and im not sure if thats the idea or if thats the opposite of what i need? i was told to put a patch on it but all i found were braces and support like wraps. can you tell me in detail what i need to do with my arm and what kind of wrap i need for it. also i know i need a splint for at night so my elbow stays straight but mostly i want to know how long this will take to go away because i love working out and im not sure doing curls right now is the best thing lol. it just feels like a constant tingly feeling and some very mild numbing occasionally i dont think its serious cause the doc just told me to wrap it and keep it rested while i take the meds and itll go away i just want to know how long it takes because it sucks feeling this all day.

Brief Answer:
Needs 3-4 weeks to heal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The arm brace is given to give rest to the elbow and to avoid any further injury to the inflamed tendons. The mild pressure that it is putting is not harmful.
Occupational changes such as too much use of keyboards and positioning should be changed.
You can use medications such as non-steroidal antiinflammatory to alleviate the symptoms or you use injectable steroidal antiinflammatory such as prednisolone in the dosage of 20mg daily for two weeks (low dose steroids).
The brace may need to be used for 3-4 weeks to allow time for the tendons to heal. Soft tissue therapy can be used to break down adhesions that may be restricting the nerve.
Neural stretching exercises are helpful under the care of a physiotherapist.
Surgery might be needed in severe cases with persistent symptoms.
I hope this answers your query.

Ok so an elbow support shouldn't put too much pressure. Is it normal to feel the sensations more with a brace on? Also idk if this is the nerve but it looks like there's much more blood flow in my left hand cause its filled bright pink skin tone while my right hand remains pale white

Brief Answer:
Likely to be a tight brace.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
An elbow support should not put too much pressure on the elbow. If you are feeling more sensations with the brace then it can be due to a nerve compression. It is better to loosen the brace or remove it while taking rest at night.
Hope my answer is helpful.
