Question: my friend has had a bad cough and congestion for over a month now he is 67, and has taken a full round of augmentin and a dose pack he still is congested and lots of muces and coughing to the point he has to sit up at night to clear his lungs, he does not smoke

He is having cough, congestion and orthopnea. And all these are seen in bronchitis and heart failure.
So better to consult doctor and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system, blood pressure monitoring.
2. Chest x and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). These are needed to rule out lung related causes like bronchitis.
3. Ecg and 2d echo. These are needed to rule out lung heart failure.
So better to first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
