Question: I have had a cold for just under a week, but today I had a coughing fit and had a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen nearer my hip. Should I be concerned?

Cold by means of spreading the inflammation down the respiratory tract causes fits of cough.

The commonest reasons at your age of 24 can be ::
Sprain of the lower abdominal muscles in this particular area.
Less possible is the chance of inguinal hernia , although this is rare in females.

I think you should be concerned and visit ER to get a physical/ clinical examination done by a Doctor to ascertain the cause and get an appropriate treatment.
