Brief Answer:
yes medicines are available

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXX,

Thanks for writing to us.
I appreciate your attitude to quit addiction of corex. It contains codeine which is a drug from opioid group.
Opium generally causes sever dependance. And withdrawal includes bodyache, muscleache, fever, yawning, lacrimation, diarrhoea etc. To treat this withdrawal substitute medicines as well as symptomatic treatment needed.
Substitute medicines includes buprenorphine, proxyvon or may be tramadol. All these medicines will be availble with prescription only. And buprenorphine will be available from psychiatrist/ deaddiction specialist only.
Symptomatic treatment includes NSAIDs group - pain killer, benzodizepines and may be clonidine.

You need to consult psychiatrist for deaddiction.

Late me know following details,

Total duration of intake, frequency, dose- detail of codeine mg per ml

Have you ever tried to quit before?

Any other medicine are you taking with it?

Brief Answer:
Need to consult a psychiatrist

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr XXXXXXX

Sorry for delayed response and thanks for exact details.

You are taking corex since 6 years and 3 bottles per day that is pretty good amount.
But you have attempted to quit that is good sign of motivation for deadiction. As you were able to control withdrawal features without any medicine, that suggest you can quit corex much easily.

I am sorry for your mother. You mentioned that you restarted corex after her death and you again became dependent. Here the main problem is your wrong strategy to cope up the stressful situation as you did.Medicines for depression and anxiety will help you for sure but the main focus of treatment should be counselling.

For counselling detail history of yours required in terms of: Persona, family and past history; Education and work history; Substance history including corex with every small detail like in which situation it started , how increased, number of attempts and detail of them etc; Mental Status Examination. This will help to find out where the problem is in your coping skills under stressful situation and help you to correct those psychological factors through counselling and behavior therapy.

For this you need to consult a psychiatrist in personal. Though I am not knowing any psychiatrist personally in Kolkatta, I do not think that it is difficult to find out psychiatrist in kolkatta.

I will be glad to answer again if any query yet.

regards and all the best,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Brief Answer:
Escitalopram,See detail answer for more info

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Normally any drug should be taken after consulting doctor and with written prescription as per current medical ethics and laws.
I would like to mention the medicines which I would prefer if I were your treating doctor.

Escitalopram 10 mg to start with at night. If no improvement noted in 10 days I would like to add the same dose in the morning. It is good SSRI antidepressant medicine with least side effects. Side effects may concern for you are delayed ejaculation but it is reversible.

If you feel more anxious and excessive thought during daytime, I would like to add etizolam 0.25 mg one in the morning and one in the afternoon which will calm you and make you able to concentrate on work.If not etizolam, clonazepam 0.25 can be used in same manner.

I will be happy to help further if need.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.
