Suggest Treatment For Constant Diarrhea

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Oct 2015
Question: For the past few months, I will experience 1 bout of diarrhea (usually at night before bed) only once per week. Then my bowels will go back to normal. I will then experience some constipation/gas and then that 1 time a week it will release in a big form of diarrhea. Then again, go back to normal bowel movements.

Some history is that I've always had a pretty poor digestive track, dairy gives me trouble and maybe other allergens do as well. I've never really been tested for anything GI. Could this be something serious? Would it be constant/persistent diarrhea that wouldn't stop or could something more serious come in this form where it only comes once, goes back to normal and then presents itself in about 1/1.5 weeks again? I'm not sure if it could all be normal being that things tend to run through my digestive system fairly quickly. I never have noticed any discoloration with the diarrhea, just the normal brown color, but watery.

One additional items of note is that I just completed a full physical with my primary physician exactly 1 month ago. All tests/blood labs were completed with the physical. And all results with CBC blood work and urinalysis came back normal and was told everything looked fine.

Brief Answer:
Stool test and stool culture test shoudl be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Do you have any skin changes (like eczema?) or any joint pains?

Your symptoms can be caused by food intolerance/allegry (to milky products for example), chronic bacterial infection or at worse inflammatory bowels disease. It is not a normal think to have such irregular stools. Healthy digestive tract gives regular stools.
That is why my suggestion for you is to consult GI doctor and have some tests done. CBC and urine is not enough. You should start with stool test and stool culture test.
Please try to eliminate milky products and any spicy products. Avoid sweets, chocolate, soft drinks. Start probiotic intake.
You can also discuss with your doctor Rifaximine treatment for chronic infection.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
