Suggest Treatment For Cold And Sore Throat

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Sep 2014
Question: Hi I have been smoking for the last 4 years.
I am 27 years old.

Last week I cought a cold and my smoking made it worse.

However, I would cut down on the smoking only temporarily.

Currently, if I smoke my throat starts hurting. I also start feeling that something is stuck there.
If I don't smoke for a few hours it goes away.

Could this be cancer ?

Brief answer....relax as it is not throat cancer.
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Your symptoms are being caused by the continuous smoking in spite of having sore throat.
In sore throat, generally caused by virus, your inner linings of throat get irritated and inflamed and this gets aggravated by the smoke which also Akers your throat more dry ,irritated and inflamed.
Persistent feeling of,something stuck in your throat,is due to the increased secretion of mucus by the body o take care of irritation and dryness. This results in feeling of some obstruction.
Just quit smoking,if not permanently then at least for few days, take hot liquids,do warm saline gargles and avoid cold drinks for 3-4 days.
You should be all right soon.
Although not a throat cancer now but continued smoking can definitely cause various cancers like throat, lungs, pancreas etc.
My sincerest advise to you is that you quit smoking completely.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
