Suggest Treatment For Cold And Rattling Sound From The Chest

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: My son is 10 days short of 8 months. He had a cold 13 days ago - likely some infection from me, as I too had it 2 days before him. We went to a doctor on Nov 6, and the doctor said there was no chest congestion and that it is "dust allergy" (which I disagree with, as my boss to got that cold from me ). The cold has left now for both of us, but we can hear a rattling sound of phelm sound when he breathes. Do we give any medicine 9 mucolyte drops for example by Dr. Reddy's) or give nothing

Brief Answer:
It is due to Hyper reactive airway

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms XXXXXXX

The cause of Respiratory symptoms is likely to be viral infection. It's self limiting and requires only symptomatic treatment.
The cause of persistent symptoms in case of your baby is likely to be persistent post infectious hyper reactivity of airways. Do not worry it will subside. If baby is accepting feeds well and there is no fever then there is no cause for concern. No specific medications required.

I would also suggest the following

1. Normal Saline Nasal drops : 3 to 4 drops in each nose 6 times a day. It will maintain the nasal mucosa moist and will reduce the rattling sound

2. Steam inhalation : Preferably using electronic steamer. Maintain safe distance from baby. Use it for 5 to 10 minutes in the room in which baby sleeps. No direct contact of steam with baby.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
