Suggest Treatment For Cold And Cough With Phlegm In Throat

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Nov 2015
Question: I have had a "cold" for almost 4 weeks. It originally started as a phlegm producing cough and has since moved into my sinuses. For the past week I have had some cough, tight sinuses, and one side of my nose that I cannot get any air through and cannot even get any relief by blowing it. I have tried a neli pot and over the counter sinus medicine without much success. How can I tell if this is just a virus that I need to continue to wait out or if I have a sinus infection.

Help

Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

There are a few things which can help bigtime with your symptoms.

1) Steam inhalation can help you big time I would suggest it twice daily for 4..5 minutes. It will soften the mucous clogged up in your sinuses.
2) Take tablet Alegra-D it will help with body aches and fever if any plus help with congestion as well.
3) Do take some OTC antihistamin daily at night for example citerizine or loratidine 10mg daily at night this will help with allergy and runny nose.
4) Warm compresses over the sinuses do help relieve the congestion.
5) Steamy bath does help toom
6) Hot drinks help protecting you from dry throat and irritation specially green tea is good for this.
7)If things dont get better you have to visit your doctor some simple lab tests and xray of sinuses can help to see what is the condition in sinuses.
8) There is no way for you to surely know if its viral ir bacterial... when a sinus gets blocked it will not matter if it was viral or bacterial it has to be opened by medication or sirgical drainage.

If things keep getting worsened and you start running high fever then you would probably need antibiotics then I would suggest you to visit your doctor ASAP otherwise you can tak appointment in these 15 days and get a checkup.

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.
