Suggest Treatment For Cold And Cough In An Infant

Question: My baby 42 days old...she s havin running nose,sneezing and little cough..can I give mucolite drops and nasoclear..baby already got 2 times cold within 40 days..again C got cold...first tym doc gave mucolite and nasoclear(little cough,running nose and sneezing)..second tym doc gave novamox,coriminic and nasoclear(severe cough,running nose and sneezing)..now it is third tym c got cold...y often c s getting cold...please help me

Hi dear
welcome to the HCM,
As far as cold, running stuffy nose and mild fever is there one can choose the same medicine like
Naso clear nasal drops 2 drops frequently even hourly if required.
Coriminic drops can also be given.
If the baby is having fever and bodyaches then one use calpol drops 6 to 8 drops 6 hourly.
Steam inhalation will also help but with caution-.
If the baby is having high fever or some breathing difficulty or not feeding well along with the cough then please immediately contact your pediatrician.
Sunlight exposure regularly.
Avoid people with viral fever, cough or running nose. Usual cause of recurrent cold is contact with such people.

Thanks for your reply doc...C s feeding properly and no fever..continuous sneezing and running nose is the prob and little cough and c is sleeping most of the tym..is it good.....i gave 3 tymes of mucolite drops...but sneezing is not stopped yet...tat's y i asked..I'm also got cold two tym..s it a reason for baby getting cold again and again..if suppose sneezing is stopped can I conclude cold got clear...

Hi.
Sneezing usually stops of its own after the viral activity is stops.but if sneezing is intractable then one can give a milder dose of some steroidal nasal spray for day or two.
Recurrent cold are very common in these post rainy changing season. And it common to spread to the people in their surrounding.

Thanks doc...how many days should I give mucolite and nasal spray for getting cold clear..already I gave one day...please specify it..Shall I change mucolite to choriminic drops if cold s not clear...

Coriminic can be continued till the congestion lasts or running stuffy nose is there.
Mucolite liquefies the mucus and sputum can be stopped.
Steam inhalation works.
Saline nasal drop to be continued till the nasal blockage is there.or the nose is noisy.
Watch for increasing cough breathing difficulty. If so consult your paediatricians .
