Suggest Treatment For Chlamydia And Gonorrhea

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: I had unprotected sex 3 nights ago with someone who has Chlamydia & possibly Gonorrhea. If i take Chlamydia & Gonorrhea medication immediately (as i have some at home), would this clear the infection? Or do i need to wait several weeks for the bacteria develop before treating it? I will then get tested in 2 weeks time to make sure I am clear.

I would like to start treatment immediately, because I know you have to wait two weeks before getting tested for these STIs but I know I have come into contact with them and so want to be proactive.

should take medication

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you can be proactive and use the medication if you have it at home.

Normally when a person is diagnosed with chlamydia and/or gonorrhea, the partner is treated whether or not he or she has signs or symptoms.

For this reason, as a partner of someone with these infections, you should be treated even if no symptoms are present. These infections can sometimes be silent this means that the bacteria may be present but no symptoms occur.

At present the current recommendations for treatment are ceftriaxone combined with either azithromycin or doxycycline.
Ceftriaxone is given as a single dose but it is an intramuscular injection that you may need to get from your doctor's office.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
