Suggest Treatment For Chills While Having Stomach Flu

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Aug 2016
Question: I am concerned as I have had chills but when I went to the doctor I had no fever. I still have the chills. They did take a blood sample but I have not heard if there is an infection of some kind. I also reported that I have had an upset stomach and was prescribed omeprazole, one tablet one hour before breakfast. I do feel tired and weak.

Brief Answer:
Stomach flu

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
It seems that you may be coming down with the stomach flu.

Chills can occur about 10 minutes to half hour before a fever arises or even accompany a fever.
A fever is the body's defense mechanism and tends to wax and wane as the body defends itself.

I recommend :
-plenty of Hydration (urine should be light coloured), unless you have told been told by your doctor not to do so.
-Have either more frequent but smaller meals.
-avoid spicy, oily and fried foods.
-rest
-omeprazole helps with gastritis and heart burn. (of you feel better after taking it, continue to do so.)
-monitor your temperature when you have the Chills and 15-30 minutes after. If your temperature is more than 100.4f, take a tylenol.

Based on your results, additional treatment may be prescribed but the flu usually goes away on its own in a week. Symptomatic relief may be taken as above. If any new symptoms, please let your doctor know.

Hope I've helped.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health & speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
