Question: I get chilblains every winter, which drive me crazy with the stinging at night. My Dr put me on Zanadip a few years back. He told me to watch my blood pressure doesn't go too low as I'm on 25 mg Noten o for blood pressure. I also have charcot XXXXXXX tooth which is why my feet don't get a lot of exercise,. Any further advice for chilblains. I have tried infrared socks which I think do help.

Brief Answer:
calcium channel blockers and nitrogesic gel

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.

Chillblains is a condition with high tendency of recurrence on exposure to cold.
So the basic amd foremost remedy for it is prevention rather than cure.

I will advice you to avoid exposure to cold temperature if possible. In case it is unavoidable, patients are advised to wear double layered socks and gloves prior to onset of winter or exposure.

Once onset of chillblains is there, usually calcium channel blockers like nifedipine is advised. For stinging sensation like symptoms, nitrogesic ointment can be applied over the involved area 2-3 times per day.

Soaking hands and feet in warm saline water for 5 minutes two to three timea a day is quite useful. Infrared socks is also a gud option if available.

But I will like to again stress upon the role of preventive measures rather than cure.
nicotine intake in any form is not advisable at all.

I hope this helps you.
If you have any further query you may ask me.
