Suggest Treatment For Chest Infection Along With Throat Pain

Question: Husband is ill. Been about a week now. Coughing up phlem, (light colored). Tired. This morning he started shaking uncontrollably. Vicks on his chest, heating pad on his chest and he is covered with 5 blankets. We've googled flu versus cold symptoms, but the shakes are making me nervous. I also made him honey and lemon hot water. Says throat hurts but not his chest. No nausea or vomiting. He is very huah, so he isn't exaggerating his symptoms. Thank you in advance. just had coughing spasm, a lot of bright green slimy mucus. I'm seriously considering the emergency room.

Brief Answer:
He needs an ER evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. He needs an evaluation in an ER.

2. Since he nas been ill for more than a week, this will be a post-viral or bacterial stage, requiring a step up in medication.

3. Shivering and rigors mean either a viral infection, urinary tract infection, malaria, pus or septicemia and so on.

4. The slimy green mucus means that he needs a chest auscultation, chest X-ray and an ECG. Get the sputum sent for examination and culture sensitivity.

5. These are signs that he should no longer be treated at home unless he is examined by a doctor.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
