Suggest Treatment For Calluses On The Foot While Suffering From Rheumatoid Arthritis
Question: My wife has callous under each joint at each toe that causes sever pain on each foot, She has had both of her big toe joints removed with plates and screws to reinforce plus the 4 joints removed from her right foot only to cause the callous to move to under her big toe joint and along the side of her right foot. Her foot Dr. wants to remove the four joints on her left foot. Although this has eliminated
the callouses on Her right foot the pain is worst. She does have rheumatoid arthritis. We are thinking could these be nodules and what could help??

Well, Firstly I would like to know if her feet has developed deformities due to Rheumatoid arthritis as the calluses are very common when the foot gets deformed and is usually due to poor foot mechanics. ??If you could attach a picture it would be more helpful
Secondly, It doesnt sound like rheumatoid nodules as they hardly occur below the foot joints.. But are there any swellings at other places like elbows, knees, behind eara or behind the scalp??
What about the general condition of her other joint's..Are they also inflamed???

As of the foot calluses due to poor foot mechanics, a good foot wear and off-loading of the joint( that is--> Constant removal of dead skin, avoiding pressure on it and keeping it hygenic) are the ones that work in long run. Moreoever, we need to make sure the disease is under control so further worsening of joints doesnt happen

Her fingers are inflamed and starting to deform. I have attached pictures of her surgery, Swollen Hands and feet. Plus todays picture. She is taken Abbreva 30 mg once a day We have special orthapedic insoles and shoes specially custom designed for her feet. Theses calluses seem to grow from the inside out. I having trouble uploading new pictures will try later.

Well I think we need to step up the treatment for her arthritis. since she continues to have swollen hands and feet along with increasing deformities, I it is heat we control the disease. Callus formation is one bit of it which will happen due to deformity, I but if we don't control deformity it will keep happening again
If you could send me her previous treatment details it would be helpful.. we need to start her with methotrexate and other drugs
