Suggest Treatment For Calcified Hematoma On Shin

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I bumped my right shin 5 yrs ago (hard) and developed a large hematoma. The area has always been tender and some pain to touch since this happened. In the past 6 months the area has darkened and is at times some redness around the darkened area which is slightly larger than a half dollar. No pain is associated with the changes in discoloration. I just had an ultrasound of the area which the radiologist says is a calcified lesion, this was followed up by an x-ray which they "think" may be a phlebolith. When touching this area it feels like a hard bump under the skin, circular in shape.
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
You may have calcified hematoma/myositis ossificans.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have history of injury and hematoma formation. If hematoma is not reabsorbed then gradually there is calcium deposition occurs in hematoma.

You have some calcium deposit in hematoma. It is called calcified hematoma or myositis ossificans.

Medical treatment is ice massage, drink plenty of water and avoid high calcium diet. For pain releif you can take paracetamol.

If it remains persist or problematic then surgical removal of that calcified growth can be done.

Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic.
