Question: My name is XXXXXXX A few days ago I was heating up something to eat in the microwave and when I went to eat it, it was way to hot and it felt like it was burning all the was down. Now I think that I burned my esophagus. it is painful for me to eat and to drink. at times I feel pressure when I am laying down on my back. I have heard it just takes time to heal and to eat soft foods and room temperature drinks. I have been taking Advil and using throat drops and that helps alittle but after a few min it comes right back. Is there anything that you can tell me to take that will help with the pain and help it heal faster? thank you

Brief Answer:
Stop Advil, follow advice as given below...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. If the pain will persist for a few more weeks, should discuss with GI specialist to schedule for upper endoscopy for further evaluations.

2. Meanwhile, I advise to stop taking Advil as it will aggravate your symptoms

3. Start taking PPIs (omeprazole or pantoprazole) and antacids to improve your symptoms.

4. Try to:
- eat foods at room temperature
- eat liquid foods (soups, puree, etc)
- avoid solid and hot foods, spicy, fried, chillies
- avoid drinking alcohol

Hope it helped!

Brief Answer:
Will speed up healing of mucosa...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

PPIs are a group of medication that inhibits the protonic pump. This pump is located at the mucosa of the stomach and are responsible for the acidity of the stomach liquid.

We advise PPIs as when this pumps are blocked, the liquid of stomach won't be acidic (change in pH). In such different pH, it will take time for the mucosa to regain the normal function (no more inflammation) and your symptoms will be improved.

Hope it answered to your queries!
