Brief Answer:
it may be a lymph node

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It may be a lymph node.

These are found in different areas of the body including the neck.

They are part of the immune system and respond as a result of inflammation or infection in a particular area.
The nodes in the neck would respond to any issues with the ears, nose , throat, face mainly.

It can take 4 to 6 weeks in some cases, for the nodes to return to normal size.

I Hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

What would cause it? I'm feeling sore around the back of my neck & especially on the right side , where the tender bump is. I don't have a fever at all...don't think it is a cold or sinusitis . I'm confused & anxious .. I will check with my primary dr, by the way. Only wanted some more insight on this.

that is a good idea

Detailed Answer:
HI

That is a good idea, he or she would be able to examine the area to determine if it is a lymph node and determine the likely cause if this the case
