Question: I've waken up with bruised eyelid. For the last few days I had viral stomach upset (moving among family members) but in my case was mild w/o vomiting and diarrhea... I regularly take number of meds w/o any side effects. Last night I took 1 tsp of peptodysmol to help with heavy stomach....

Brief Answer:
Immediate clinical examination and relevant investigations needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for posting the concern in the HCM.
The present complaint in your case is a spontaneous bruising of eyelid following an attack of gastroenteritis.
Now, spontaneous bruising of eyelid may occur due to various reasons including blood dyscrasias, acute sinusitis, viral infection, angioedema, drugs etc.
Clinical examination by a local physician is urgently needed.
The following investigations are also needed for further evaluation-
Complete blood count, CRP, Urea, Creatinine, Electrolytes, LFT
Blood for coagulation profile (BT, CT, PT, APTT, INR)
Stool for RE and CS
CT scan of PNS with 3D reconstruction of face
Based on the reports of these investigations and clinical examination further management can be planned.
I also need a few more information to evaluate-
1. Do you have any recent history of fever or flu like symptoms?
2. Do you have rash at any site of the body?
3. Do you have any history of chronic joint pain?
4. Do you have any history of spontaneous bleeding from any site or spontaneous bruising?
5. Do you have any comorbidity? If yes, specify
6. Please provide the list of medications you take regularly.
Regarding the medication for heavy stomach, it has nothing to do with your spontaneous eye bruising, if it is not the case of angioedema.
Please write back for further information. If you find this answer helpful, please close the thread and rate my answer.

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi ZXXX, thanks for answering my queries.

I can understand that you have a transport problem for you live in rural areas. But, for me to answer your queries, I need at least two things-

1. An image of your bruised eye in the report section
2. The scanned copies of the investigation reports I mentioned
With all the answers of the queries from 1-4 negative, I need to know the above mentioned two at the earliest.

Furthermore, you are a known hypertensive with history of intake of Aspirin. Therefore, coagulation profile and imaging are must in your case. Without them I am clueless. So, you at least need to do them urgently. You should also stop taking Aspirin.

Therefore write back with the above mentioned information at the earliest.

Dr. Kaushik Sarkar
